A workshop for small web tools. Everything here started as something I needed and could not find, or could not stand paying for.
ondelva is a one-person software studio, run by Yunseon Hong. The name puts together onda, Italian for wave, and elva, Norwegian for river: ship in small waves, keep moving like a river. It means nothing beyond that on purpose, so what gets built here can change without the name getting in the way.
I build these because I keep walking into the same wall: a task that takes five minutes, sitting behind a signup form and a monthly fee. So the tools here open in a browser, there is nothing to install, and at the moment none of them ask you to make an account.
The direction is more of the same. Each tool does one job and gets its own page under Tools when it is ready. A handful of small tools that each do one thing beat one that does everything at half quality. The work happens in the open, and the blog is where I write down what I ran into while building.
That is how things stand today rather than a promise about next year. Something that turns out to cost real money to keep running may end up with a price on it, and something nobody uses, me included, will probably come down. If either happens I would rather say so here than leave the thing quietly rotting.
